R.I.P. Gerard Smith (TV on the Radio)

TV on the Radio’s bassist Gerard Smith passed away from lung cancer recently, very shortly after the release of the band’s new album and film ‘Nine Shades of Light’. The film is an ode to the album, a visual reflection of each song and thoughts by random people on various topics like dreams, love, the future. The music videos were co-directed with friends and family of the band apparently.

You can watch the whole 1 hour long film (and stream the album all at once) right here:

Cornershop

Loving this blend of electronic, indie and Indian music, by British-Indian band Cornershop, lead by Tjinder Singh. They have 8 albums; how have I never heard of them before!

My favourite tracks seem to be collaborations with Bubbley Kaur (apparently becoming a new member? or a common singer they collaborate with since their latest release in 2011, ‘Cornershop and the Double-O Groove Of’)

‘Topknot’ (feat. Bubbley Kaur)

United Provinces of India (feat. Bubbley Kaur)

Supercomputed (feat. Bubbley Kaur)

But others are also good, such as these, that tend to have more of an indie feel to them:

Something Makes You Feel Like (feat. Soko)

‘something makes you feel like grass is greener on the other side, but where is the other side?’

Sleep on the Left Side

Fun fact… Fatboy Slim covered one of their older tracks, ‘Brimful of Asha’:
